Painted Post is one of the villages in the Erwin Township. It is
located at rt.17, I - 86 and rt.15 or Exit 43 on rt.17.
Early settlers were said to have seen some kind of post that was painted with berry juice
or blood where the Conhocton and Tioga rivers join to form the Chemung. Thus, the name
Painted Post. You can see the Seneca Chief montour monument in the Painted Post Village
square.
