Wayland is located at exit 3 on Rt 390 in the northwestern part of
Steuben County.
Wayland is one of the younger townships in Steuben County, formed in 1848. John Hess was
partly responsible for the railroad coming to Wayland and the growth of the Village. The
Village was incorporated in 1876. The Rotary Club has an annual Potato Festival at the end
of August, featuring potatoes in every form, tractor pulls, arts & crafts, 10k race,
spud walk & BBQ.
