Fremont is located northeast of Hornell. In November of 1854 Fremont was created from portions of Hornellsville,Dansville,Wayland and Howard. The town includes the hamlets of Stephens Mills,Haskinsville and Big Creek.

Fremont was named in honor of General John C. Fremont.
