Saltsman digger pg8

We know of six different models they apparently made. Ray Saltsman Jr. has another patent model up there. This model is very similar to the one they really got the patent on. I have here the US Patent Office Papers, Erwin Elizah Saltsman, of Avoca New York, patent number 365865,dated July 5, 1887. There are about four pages of this in here to show you how the potato digger worked, what was going on it, you can sit on the seat of the one I just restored or the one they patented and drive it like a sulky. Take the time to look very carefully as these parts because later in the story they will be critical. Patents are granted for a term of 17 years, this date remember is July 5, 1887. As we move along on this patent, now I have come to another Saltsman Potato Digger that needs to be restored maybe Ray Jr. will restore it. What is great about this potato digger is the gears are now changed, they now have a big bell gear, one shaft that goes back, the inside shaft stays stationary the outside shaft turns around and theres just that one item that goes back they do have what they call a knob shifter that is a regular shifter that changes it. All potato diggers that were made by Saltsman you could turn them, you could move a lever so the potatoes would go left or go right. I have a couple of nice pictures here that show how if you turned the lever the potatoes would go left or right depending on the turn of the lever. I had to make these pictures because of something that happended in this next picture, I used a little chalk to make parts stand out.
