West Union is located in the southwestern corner of Steuben County. Separated from its northern neighbor Greenwood on april 25,1845. The higher elevations ranging from 2,000 to 2,400 feet above sea level found suitable for agriculture. Within West Union is the hamles of Wileysville settled by John Wiley around 1849, and the hamlet of Rexville where the first mill was bilt in 1849 by Charles and Daniel Rexford.
