The Village of Arkport is located in the Canisteo Valley at exit 34 on route 17 of the southern tier expressway, located north of the city of Hornell . Arkport is in the township of Hornellsville. Founded in 1797, Arkport got its name because of an early settler Hurlbut. Hurlbut built a barge ( at that time called an ark ) to float grain and livestock down the Canisteo river.
